Re: Cox
In Response To: Re: Cox ()

Hello Sue and many thanks for your interest with my Cox family.

I have seen the marriage entry of Maud N Cox in 1915, but thank you for pointing it out anyway. I have not as yet sent off for this certificate but maybe in the next few weeks I will, I have contacted the registry office concerned to ask if they could only issue this certificate to me if the father is named as William or William Henry Cox. These offices from where I have received certificates from previously, upon my request, only send them if the details I state are what is written on the certificate itself. Unfortunately this registry office does not do that so it means I will have to order from the General Register Office. Can't recall whether I have mentioned this but Maude's mum was living in Islington for the 1901 census, so a marriage for her daughter in the same district could be the case.

Thank you for the information from the 1911 census as well, however, Liz did find that entry for me last year, and as I am also looking for the death of Alice Emily ? I know that she was alive in 1911 when the census was taken.

Sue, I too have a picture of them escaping to the IOM, in January of 1884 the son of William Henry Cox was born where the family lived in 1881, Plymouth. In November of 1883 their son died in Bangor North Wales, just across the water to IOM, I believe. I have no idea whether it was both his parents in North Wales when the four year old died, as it was just William Henry Cox that was the informant on the death certificate. William Henry Cox and Fanny appeared in Sussex for the 1891 census and it was not long after that he appeared on the IOM. I wonder did the old rogue find Alice Emily ? on the IOM if he visited there whilst in North Wales, or did they meet up prior to him being there?

Over the last 2 years I have been steadily working my way through birth registrations of Alice Emilies ? starting off with the birth year of 1867 and registered in Ryde Isle of Wight. It is a long job, I trace a marriage for them and if they are the 1901 census then I can eliminate them, as this Alice Emily ? was on the IOM in this year with William Henry Cox.

Anyway, thank you for reading this, I look forward to any more leads.

Ewan
