Re: Cavendish/Corjeag - again!

Hello NGC, ( Would that be Nigel Crowe?)

Many thanks for your responce to my message on the IOM website. I think the Corjeag / Crowe connection came about during my Grandmother Agnes's lifetime, when one of her elder sisters - Annie - married - William? Crowe. I believe they had a large family, some of whom I met as a small child, while others I heard spoken of but never actually knew.

Some of those I did meet up with were, Norman and Ann Crowe of Kirk Michael, Uncle Norman was I believe a member of the House of Keys. Frank Crowe, his wife, their son John MC, Daughter Gwelda, and son Kenyon, all of Kirk Michael . Then in Liverpool lived Stanley and Cissie Crowe, with their daughter Hilda and son Philip. They had a number of Bakers Shops, and they must have been doing well, for they not only had their home in Liverpool but also a lovely weekend retreat in Dyserth, North Wales, and every Sunday evening en - route home, they would call to see "Aunt Aggie and Uncle Willie" together with my parents and I at Willaston . Another regular visitor I remember was Ida Crowe, although I don't quite know where or how she fitted in .

Does the name "Willie Balladoole" mean anything to you?. Can well remember it from earlier years, and rightly or wrongly am associating it with the Crowes. I THINK it might be their family home, which my Grandfather Walker always mischievously called "The Rookery" .

You are right, John Cannell is a great authority on the family. I have a tape of him talking to Florence (Dickenson ) Walker, daughter of Margaret Corjeag, with all sorts of interesting family info: thereon.

My Grandmother Agnes Corjeag married first, William Cannell, wnen he died three years later, she was left with a baby boy of under twelve months. William Herbert Cannell , in due time he married, but there were no children . From her marriage to my Grandfather, my Mother, Gladys Kenyon Walker was born, followed by a baby brother, who sadly died of meningitis at age eighteen months .

My Mother married Charles Hale of Willaston, and I, Thelma Kenyon, was their only child. I married David Kameen of Neston, and we had three children. Charles David, Alastair Kenyon and Alison Fiona. Charles and his wife Wanda have two daughters, Caroline Elizabeth and Rosemary Claire.

Other Manx names with family connections, which came to mind after sending my first message to Sylvia, are Daugherty and Christian.

Thelma .
