legally it should have given the marital status pre marriage (bachelor/spinster widower/widow) - as many have pointed out the cert issued by the Gen Registry is pretty but adds no more info than is on the microfilm of the official transcription of the parish register - it this case it may give less info in that if you look at the film and see that adjacent entries state bachelor etc and this one doesn't then possibly something is amis - if however only widowers/widows get any indication then you have to conclude that it is less likely - but absence of indication does not prove the negative
