I don't know what they would put on the birth cert if registered in England for someone born elsewhere - Carol suggested checking it to find out. Bridget Cain als Doherty was very clear in 1911 that her son was born in New York. 1911 was the first census that was filled in by the head of household themselves.
This was Cath Cain's brother Bernard aged 17 in 1911, son of Bernard b.1864 & Bridget Doherty b.c.1866, if I have the right Bridget (aged 4 1871).
