Hello Nigel,
Do you know who the Radcliffe generations were between William, Receiver, (at Peel Castle), with his dates in office given as 1594 - 1613, and Thomas Radcliffe of Knockalow/Knockaloe?

His wife Elinor's will: www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/twill/1689_004.html
Son Silvester's will: www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/twill/1731_008.html]
There seems to be a lot of information, with sources, written about Capt Thomas Radcliffe and his descendants, but few specific details about his ancestry, other than that his father was William (no proof given?), and his possible brother was Samsbury, the first Radcliffe of Gordon. But was Samsbury the first Radcliffe of Gordon?
Dr Cunliffe Shaw wrote "...in the early 17th century there was a windmill in Andreas for which Silvester Radcliffe and Philip Sayle paid 10/- rent in 1608 and there is an entry in the Liber Vast, that these men obtained possession by virtue of a bill of sale by the consent of John Curphey and Sir William Norris, fathers of Molyneux Curphey and Robert Norris who were minors. Silvester Radcliffe was son and heir of William Radcliffe, of Knockaloe, and Gordon, who was Receiver General of the Island. His name is drawn about ten years later, and there is an entry in 1648 cancelling the rent because the "wind mylne" had long since fallen down".
So this gives William Radcliffe, Receiver General 1594 - 1613, and his son Silvester who presumably was of age in 1608, then an unchecked William, then Thomas (will 1702) & Elinor (will 1689), and their son Silvester (will 1731). But is this the correct descent?
Also do you have any idea where William Radcliffe, Receiver General, came from?
Thanks.
Sue
