Paul you're not old enough to be such a cynic - making the records available via th'internet was raised and explicitly rejected during the Tynwald debate.
One good thing that may come out is the filming of all the original parish registers though I then dread to see the various misreadings that will arise as those unfamiliar with old hands continue to make the usual range of errors (Mylbrea instead of Mylrea for example as a l followed by old style r is interpreted as a modern b followed by a modern r - there will be many more).

For those off Island the amount of material on Mormon microfile is enormous though at times strangely indexed - as the post civil registration material now held by Registry would also appear to be excluded then I have some doubts about the new centre except as a place to browse the museums recently indexed collection of photos (and buy a copy at £15 each). But it might make the museum reading room a much quieter place to research.
