Hi Ray
I'd love to know exactly what your Aunt Elsie Newton wrote about her family history linking back to the Gicks of Cordeman. I don't think you've mentioned in any previous messages that Isabella Kelly b 1811, your g g g grandmother, had 2 sisters named Jane and Agnes.
I've found Jane and Agnes living together as spinster sisters in 1871 and 1881 in Douglas, both born in Marown----Agnes a dressmaker and Jane a lodging house keeper.
Jane in 1861 is hard to identify, but in 1851, could she be the Jane Kelly age 35, born IOM, domestic servant to Thomas Bentley, rector of St Matthews, Manchester, with 16 year old Jane Clarkson (her niece ?) ??
I got really interested in your search when I found Agnes Kelly in 1861 age 40, dressmaker visitor, in the household of John Clucas and Sarah his wife, who I recognised as being Sarah Blake. Their daughter Emma Clucas ( twin of George H ) b 1850 became the wife of William Clegg b 1846 in 1878. William was my g grandmother's brother.
Another child of John Clucas and Sarah Blake was Sarah Jane Clucas b 1848. She married James Moore, draper, and one of their children was Ramsey Bignall Moore, attorney General.
Agnes Kelly in 1851 is probably the "19 year old visitor" in the Ballacurry, Rushen household of John and Christian Curphey, who as you know, were the grandparents of the "other Elsie Newton."
So much of all this points to William Gick and Jane Moore (married 11th August 1781, Santon ) being the parents of :
Dorothy Gick bap 10 Jul 1789 St Matthews Douglas, ( mother of John Clucas whose home Agnes Kelly was visiting in 1861 )
Jane Gick bap 12 Feb 1792 St Georges Douglas ( almost certainly the mother of Jane and Agnes Kelly and your ggg grandmother Isabelle Kelly )
Isabel Gick bap 9 Nov 1800 Malew (mother of Christiana whose Ballacurry home Agnes was visiting in 1851.)
All that's missing are 2 baptisms---Isabella and Jane Kelly, sisters of Agnes. Jane's must be after 1816 when 5 year old Jane died. Isabella could perhaps have been a twin of the first Jane bap 1 Sep 1811 ?---clutching at straws here !
