Re: MYSTERY missing DOROTHY CLUCAS

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. It was my error. Yes it should have been 1812.

Humble apologies. However, even with the correct date I cannot link, conclusively, Isabelle to being the daughter of Jane(Gick)and William Kelly who married abt 1810.

Nor can I find confirmation of Isabelle's marriage to Joseph Clarkson. Yes, it seems to indicate on the census they are married, but if she (Isabelle) gave her name as Clarkson they would just accept it, wouldn't they?

However, it was just a thought, but in those days divorce was rare, however, marriages did not always work out. I wondered about the possibility that this Isabelle (if she is not the daughter of William and Jane) that she was already married but left her husband and went to England.

There she has a realtionship with Joseph Clarkson and the child Jane comes along. They then live together as man and wife.

The only reason I hold this possibility is because so far, I have been unable to find a 'marriage' or, who were her parents in the IOM. The 1851 census is quite clear she is from the IOM. And, as you saw, she would have been born abt 1812.

Now my Aunt (now deceased and buried at Rushen, with my father, her brother) did leave some notes that the Clarkson/Newton link was to the Gicks of Cordeman. So this seems the most likely.

So, (1) did Jane (Gick) and William Kelly have a daughter Isabelle about 1811/12?

And, (2) why is there no record of a marriage between Joseph Clarkson and Isabelle Kelly
who had a child 'Jane' abt 1833 when Isabelle would be abt 22.

Sorry about that incorrect date, and thanks for your help so far Jean.

Will it forever remain unsolved?
