Re: Burials in Maughold - Charles Howland

Did you see Brian's census index for 1841? It has:
HOWLAND Charles 50 Bri 1463/6 9 12
HOWLAND Charles 40 Ram 1464/8 56 11
HOWLAND Charles 20 Bri 1463/6 10 14
http://www.lawsons.ca/census/c41-h.html

The aged 50 Charles is in a cottage in Bride, stone mason, with Ann 15, James 10, Thomas 5, and Robert 5 [ages rounded].
The 20-yr-old Charles is a servant in Bride in a different household.

The Ramsey Charles Howland aged 40 is in Kirk Maughold St., a grocer, on his own.

The Bride one aged 50 could be a widower who married again in 1844? The marriage would be worth looking up in the par reg to see whether they give a different parish for one of them, and whether he was a widower. LDS film no.0106713.
And it could be worthwhile following up on the children in the 1841 census record, above (same film no.). This Charles looks as though he was married to Isabella SAYLE. If you put in those names as father and mother on the IGI you will see a list of their children's bapts in Bride. I can't see a burial for her, but also can't see her in censuses.

Ramsey is such a difficult area because of the lack of transcribed records that it really is worth going through the parish register films. Those two bapts in the 1850s should have good information. Christenings, marriages and burials, 1849-1883. FHL BRITISH Film 106182 Item 2.

Donna will probably look up the Maughold MIs for you to see whether the burials I listed from Ramsey have MIs, even if just to exclude those ones.
