In Sue's posting of the 21 October she states that most members of the committe do not use the internet. Is it really practical to conduct family research without having access to the most extensively consulted record types - Censuses & BMD Indexes, both geared to internet access? Even if one lives above one's Local Record Office there are surely ancestors who have flown the coop and left their marks elsewhere.
Apropos the Society's publications, I have sets of the K.German Burial & Peel Cemetery Registers, and would like the information about the Gorrys from the other parishes but the cost would be prohibitive considering that the Gorrys are a bit thin on the ground compared with other families.
I suggest that the Society digitises any records that are not already in this form, and then make given name extracts available on Cd (these could be one or more names - the computer doesn't mind). The production & distribution cost should be considerably less than that for hard copy, and I think the increased demand would bring even greater income.
Is there a reason why this can't/shouldn't be done?
