Hello Philip,
The IGI also had these two possible Daniels (other than the quarterland farmers):
Danl JOUGHIN bapt 1 APR 1816 Bride son of Dan J & Cath Kneal, who you said disappeared, except for a mention in his father's will. What date was this will, and was an address given (e.g. "beyond seas")?
Danl JOUGHIN bapt 4 APR 1819 Maughold son of Willm J & Jane Hogg, who you said "married Margaret Callow in January 1855, when he said he was a farmer. He quickly down-grades to labourer (Dec 1855 on baptism of first child), labourer (1861), lead miner (1871), ag lab (1881), farm lab (1896, on his son's marriage), labourer (1900, death). There is the occupation of farmer, but not at the time of those marriages in 1861 and 1877".
The children's bapts are in the Maughold parish register, but not the marriage, according to Tom Corteen's transcripts. Where was this?
As Daniel said he was a farmer in 1855, he could also have been one earlier, at the time of the two illegitimate children's births. The mothers might have lost track of him later (like I did). Certainly a possibility!
I couldn't find him in the 1851 census.
Sue
