Re: Mysterious Joughins of Jurby

Hi Bruce,

Philip is busy sorting out potential Daniel Joughins to have been the father of Catherine Joughin at her 1877 marriage to Paul Corrin.

As you mentioned Teares in connection with this family I wondered what you make of this census entry:
1851, Ballaseyr, Andreas.
John Teare Head Widowr 57 Farmer of ? acres Ag labr b.Andreas (terrible writing)
Cathrine Teare Daughter U 26 Employed generally in sewing b.Andreas
Jane Clarke Daur's daur 1 or 4? (line through it)
William Joughin dependant 12 Emp. at home b.Andreas.

This looks like Jane's bapt on the IGI - Jane Tear daur of Catherine Tear 17 OCT 1846 Andreas.

The reason I was looking for William Joughin was because he also named his father as Daniel Joughin, farmer, at his marriage to Margaret Fargher on 11 Aug 1861 Lonan. He gave his birth place as Andreas in the 1901 census. (Under "Jonthin" on Ancestry.)

Can you see any way the Teares of Ballaseyr in 1851 could have been connected to Cath Joughin/Corrin and the census entries you found for her?

Thanks!

Sue
