Hi Marg
Unfortunately the answer to "Am I my brother-in-law's keeper?" seems to be "No!". Mary M kindly looked up the marrage of John Kelly & Ann Kneale at the Manx Museum (see this string, Oct 4th 2007 3:34pm) and John's father was Thomas Kelly, not John Kelly as suggested. Thus the probable parents of John Kelly who married Ann Kneale in 1846 were Thomas Kelly / Isabella Moore (m. Lon 16/11/1811). John was b. Lonan 10/7/1814.
I have followed Thos & Isabella through the census returns to 1871 (they probably died within a few days of each other in Douglas in 1875). Thomas' birth was most likely 30/7/1785 s/o Thomas Kelly; Isabella's birth 2/6/1791 d/o Thomas Moore.
From Lonan baptisms 1776-93 it would seem that there were two procreational Thomas Kellys in Lonan at that time; one was Thos, married to Isabella Clague whose son John (b. 1776/8) was the father of the Robert & John who started all this! (see Averils's notes in this string). I can't identify the other Kelly's spouse. Also not sure how many Thos Moores were active in Lonan around that time, or their wives.
So there is at best a 50/50 chance that the Robert Kelly who married both Elizabeth Gelling and widow Ann Kelly als Kneale was a first cousin to Ann's husband John Kelly. Eric Gelling recently suggested this, but not sure if he used the same reasoning.
Elizabeth Margaret is in the IGI, b.1859; then Elizabeth Ann (2) and just Elizabeth (12) in succeeding censuses; I suspect it was the same person, because: - On 1/9/1878 Elizabeth Margaret Kelly (20) married Samuel Burden at Dgls St B (IGI). 1881 Census RG_11_5604_54_p14:64 Strand St Dgls: Samuel Burden, 27, Grocer's Porter, Dgls; Elizabeth Mgt, 21, Dgls; James Hamilton, Son, 2, Dgls; Samuel Rbt, 9m, Dgls.
