Hi
Been looking at the problem of Robert Kelly (1822-70) and his wife’s apparent name change; it’s all quite speculative, so feel free to pull this “house of cards” down:

Robert Kelly, Bpt. 21/1/1822(IGI) s/o John & Mgt Kinnish (see 1841 census Balladhoo), married 9/10/47 at Lon Elizabeth Mgt Gelling. 1851 census Baldrine: Rbt & Eliz + 2 Children. At Balladhoo in 1851 were Rbt’s parents John K 72, Mgt K 65, sisters Ann K 23 & Eliz Collister (Marrd, 27, visitor). 1861 census Balladhoo Rbt, 39, Eliz, 39, + 7 children.
Lonan Burial Regs: KELLY Elizabeth Mgt, Balladhoo, 45 yrs, 07Jul1867.

John Kelly, Bpt.Dec1816 (IGI) s/o John & Mgt Kinnish (see 1841 census Balladhoo) married 29/1/46 Lon Ann KNEALE (d/o Thos & Mgt Cannell; family also in Balladhoo area 1841). In 1851 John (36) & Ann (23) Kelly were at Wellington Blds, Dgls. 1861 Census John K, 46 & Ann, 33 at Cambrian Place Dgls with daur Ann, 6m. Lon Old Yard D3 “ Imo Thomas, d.21st Mar 1850 aged 4yrs also Ann d.2nd Apr 1862 aged 1yr6m, children of John & Ann Kelly of Dgls, formerly of this Parish” Lon Bur Regs:
KELLY Thomas s/o Thomas (sic; mis-transcription?) from Dgls, 4yrs, 24Mar1850.
KELLY Ann, Cambrian Place Dgls, 1yr 6m, 03Apr1862.
KELLY John, Dgls, 50yrs, 04Jun1865.

So, (you can see where this is going!) in late 1867 we have Robert Kelly, recent widower and his sister in law Ann Kelly (widowed for 2yrs); and indeed a Robert Kelly married an Ann Kelly at Bradden on 26th Dec 1867. Robert Kelly died in 1870 leaving a will in which he named all his extant children, but gave his wife’s name as Ann (see Brian Lawson's site). In the 1871 census Ann Kelly (widow) 43 of Balladhoo lived with 5 “children” whose names were identical to those of Robert / Eliz Mgt als Gelling.
After 1871 the children are difficult to identify in censuses, other than Rbt George who lived with his aunt Eliz Collister in 1881 (he died in 1885 aged 20). Eliza may have been a servant at Derby Sq Dgls in 1881

Now more speculation - An Ann Kelly married John Cojeen 17/8/72 Lon. In 1881 John C, 64 and Ann, 52 lived at Baldrine Rd Lonan; in 1891 John C, 74 and Ann, 63, were at Ballig Farm. Ann Cojeen was buried aged 68yrs on 3/8/1896, John in 1904: -
Lon Old Yard J13 “ .....................ANN alias KNEALE, wife of John Cojeen, who died July 31st 1896 aged 68 yrs”

Do you have any further data which can support or collapse this? (eg Braddan Marriage Register for 26th Dec 1867, and Lonan Marriage Register for 17/8/1872, giving name of father)
