Hi John:
I have been working my way through the information you posted Oct 2 2007 7.16 pm. I think you may be onto something here! I know that (I have marr. cert) Robert Kelly DOB 1822 first married Elizabeth Margaret Gelling and then following her death it would appear that he married his sister-in-law (would that have been legal??) Ann (nee Kneal) Kelly, (maybe it was a mutual arrangement as they were both left with children from their first marriages). Ann Kelly subsequently married John Cojeen, so what happened to the children of RK and EMG. This gets more and more complicated as I type this. I very recently obtained RK's will which I transcribed and is now posted on B.Lawson's website. You are right John that RK names "Ann" as his wife in his will and names his children as beneficiaries which are identical to the c/o RK and EMG - too great a coincidence not to be true I would suggest.
Re JC, you give his age in 1891 as 74 and died in 1904, on B.Lawson's website there is a John Cojeen, aged 90, died April 10 1904 which would make him 87 - is it the same JC - more than likely? In 1861c Ballig Farm, there is a John Cojeen (unmarried) 44, Elizabeth Cojeen (Step-mother) 50, Margaret Kelly (niece) 22, Mary Ann Colwin(?) 12, and Eleanor Cannell, visitor.
Children of RK and EMG:
Sophia Jane Kelly DOB 1848 D: 1858
1861 c Balladhoo
Robert Kelly (39) DOB 1822
Elizabeth Kelly (39) DOB 1822
John Robert (11) DOB 1850 D: 1868
William Henry (9) DOB 1852 (Unable to find subsequently)
Thomas Edward (8) DOB 1853 D: 1865
Richard Charles (6) DOB 1854 D: 1939
James Frederick (4) DOB 1856 (Unable etc..)
Elizabeth Ann (1861c??) (Margaret IGI??) (2) DOB 1859
Ann Jane (1 month) DOB 1861 (Unable etc...)
And later:
Eliza Catherine DOB 1863 D: 1908 (my G/Mother)
Robert George (DOB) 1865 D: 1885
I found an Eliza Catherine also at Derby Square, Douglas, in 1881c and I feel confident that she is the same as above. If the correct Eliza, she married John James Skillicorn 1882 (My G/father)
There was an Elizabeth Margaret (IGI) DOB 1859 but I am unable to find her subsequently. If she was a twin to Elizabeth Ann but would they both have been called Elizabeth? I have searched Ancestry. Familysearch and B.Lawsons's sites for Eliz. Margaret with no success. Is this an error on IGI and/or census by stating two different names? (See above)
It would seem that the plot thickens the more searching that is carried out!
I am going to stop here before I get myself in a right old tis 'was, and await your further comments.
Marg
