Re: Nicholas KINNISH / CORTEEN / CLAGUE

Sue, thank you. That's excellent research information that should help sort this family out. It's easy to see how there'd be a Nicholas Kinnish eminating from these people in the wills that would marry ca 1760's or so. Why there's two Nicholas K's in Lonan at the same time is a question, but maybe one came from the Maughold family a generation later than the first one.

The IGI has a Nicholas s of Nich Keanish & Margt bp 10 Feb 1733 Maughold, and there doesn't seem to be any children born to a Nicholas K in Maughold after that date. Two Nicholas K's bapt in Maughold after 1733: 1745 to Wm Keanish & Alice and 1770 Peter Kennish & Anne Cowin. Brian's site has 4 Maughold burials of a Nicholas K: 1736 (+will), 1744 (+will), 1751 (no will) and 1783 (+will).

My guess is that one of the two Nicholas K's (1733 or 1745) came to Lonan and started his family there, and I slightly favour the latter one for the 1771 marriage because a William was born into the lot in 1774, perhaps the first son if the 1773 John belongs to the other family. This could all be crazy wrong, but I like to start with something and then see how it goes given further evidence.

Are we having fun?
