Re: Getting Started

Hi Sue
Aren't people lovely! Thanks so much for looking. I'm not sure if that Jessie is the right one - I would have been 6 in 1961 so wouldn't necessarily remember the event, but I will check, because it's certainly the best lead I have so far. The timing could be perfect, because I know my Grandad James Heaney must have been born in either 1901 or 02 because his death notices said he was 41 (but another one said he was 42). I would like to find James' birth certificate to see what his parent's names are on that, but I'm not having any luck online.

The Starkeys I know of are Jessie's sisters Gladys and Lily (maybe spelt Lillie or she may even have been Lilian)

My paternal Grandmother's side are Taggarts and I know there are lots of them, but I can't find any of the names I have - even though there are LOADS! My G/mother was Elsie Mona Taggart, and she had lots of siblings - Phoebe Thomasina (known in the family as Tossie, and married Louie Kelly, a barber from Douglas) Lizzie (prob Elizabeth) who later married Captain Jim Bridson (I'm told he became Commander of the Fleet?) There was also an Amy and a Rachel, and possibly 2 others who emigrated to America. You'd think with all those names, I'd be able to find at least one in a census, but nope!

Well thankyou again Sue, and if you can point me in the right direction, or give me some tips, I'd be very grateful. Living as I now do in Norfolk (Eng) I am limited to what I'm able to access, but I will happily return to the Island to 'have a rummage', in paperwork, I just feel I'd be better with more information first.

Regards
Maggie x
