William GELLING, bp 16 Apr 1808, was the 4th and final child of John and Margaret GELLING als SCARFF of Lonan. He was a Shoemaker and lived in Liverpool. He died 7 Nov 1886 in West Derby aged 78. He is my great-great grandfather.
William had his first child with Catharine KEWLEY in early 1834 in Liverpool and had 4 more children before they married at St George Braddan 26 Oct 1841. He was a "widower". Catharine was bp 18 Aug 1810 St George Braddan to Charles KEWLEY and Judith (or Joney) QUAYLE, a barber in Douglas. She died 8 Aug 1864 aged 54 and there is an MI at Toxteth Park Cemetery.
The only first marriage that I can see as a possibility is to Margaret COWIN 3 Sep 1831 at Braddan. Margaret was bp 13 Jul 1806 at Onchan to Robert COWIN and Ellinor als KISSACK. I haven't found any children or any death for Margaret, which could have been in Liverpool. If this is the right marriage, it didn't last very long.
William and Catharine GELLING had 11 children but many of them died early. They lived at several different addresses amongst which were:
In 1841 they are at Pellew St by Coperas Hill, Liverpool
In 1851 they are at Landsdown St, Toxteth Pk.
In 1861 they are at 21 Hart St, Liverpool
In 1871 he is at 66 Smithdown Lane, W Derby
In 1881 he is at 68 Smithdown Lane, where he died in 1886.
The children are as follows. The first 9 were born in Liverpool, the last 2 in Toxteth Park.
