I think that this post is more about what our Manx surnames mean to us rather than what the origins of our own individual manx names are. Personally I am proud to bear a Manx name as it, in my view, confers a measure of uniqueness to my identity. That is the essence I think of a Manx surname. In that the origin of those "pure" Manx names can only be attributed to the Isle of Man. Not many people outside the Island recognise that and so when you meet someone who does understand and recognise a Manx name - invariably they say so eg "Thats a good manx name!" That means something to me.
