According to the authorities (Moore, Kneen) my name 'Bridson, is anglicised from the gaelic, perhaps Mac Giolla Brighde. It would be interesting to see what evidence there is for when some Manx names were anglicised and why, and why some were not. Was it, for example, more common to see these changes in the south than the north? The frequency of certain names in given districts during historical times is also interesting and has been noted (see Leslie Quilliam.) Michael Bridson.
