I am compiling a comprehensive pedigree of all Kaighins on the IOM. I currently have several major lines mapped and if you can trace back to the 1850's please let me know so we can compare notes. The lines I have concentrated on are decended from the brothers John (b. 27feb1631 married Jane Connell/Cannell) and Patrick (c.6Dec1637 married Joney Corkan). I have some information about John (b. 19Jan1855 married Emma Beddow) and his decendants in Texas county, Missouri. Also I would like to learn more about John (b.25Jul1661) who emigrated to New Jersey and what became of his family.
I'm also trying to find out the lineage of John Caesar Kaighin who married Margaret Ann Kelly on 1 Nov 1911. I have a letter from Margaret Ann's Aunt, Nessie Kaighin that says John Caesar is the grandson of John Tommy Kaighin of Knocksherry. I'm guessing he was the John Tommy married to Jane Corlett, but I don't have any corroborating evidence other than anecdotal to back this up.
My line is as follows:
Thomas Kaighin - Buried. 17Dec1648. (Everyone seems to start here)
John Kaighin b. 14Jan1611 Married Margaret. Had 5 children, John, Patrick, Thomas, William, Eleanor
John Kaighin b. 27feb1631. Married Jane Connell, MHK, kk Michael Parish Clerk. Had about 14 children as far as I can tell. Significant among them are John, who emigrated to New Jersey and had three wives and three children. One daughter, Catherine b. 4 Sep 1681, married her 1st cousin, William Kaighin b. 21Jun1671 (who is the brother of the John married to Bahee Corjeage). And also, Charles.
Charles Kaighin b. 1Apr1673. Married Mary Christian. Had 9 children. Significant among them were Eleanor b.13Nov1709, who married her 2nd cousin John b.26dec1694 who was the son of John and Bahee Corjeage.
Charles Kaighin. b. 30 Nov 1714. Married Margaret Quark. Had 5 children.
Charles Kaighin. b. 6Jun1756. Married Elizabeth Clucas. Had 6 children.
LINK BETWEEN THESE TWO IS NOT CERTAIN. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
Charles Kaighin - b. 31Dec1786. Married Eleanor Killey. Had 7 children. Significant were Charles and William. This is where the doubt lies.
Rev. Charles Wesley Kaighin. b. 13Jun1824. Married Margaret Christian. Listed in 1841 Census as living with Parents and sister Catherine on Big Well St, Douglas (Now Lords St.) Emigrated about 1850 first to England where he had first child, Ebenezer. I believe he also was ordained a Primitive Methodist minister while in England. Emigrated about 1852-3 to Brooklyn, New York. Listed in the NYC directory 1856-7 at "Washington and Adams". Had other 4 children while in Brooklyn. Catherine, Charles Wesley Jr. Mona, and Margaret Christian Kaighin. Moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Shows up in the Cleveland Directory in 1865 living with his brother William's son John F. Kaighin at 42 John St. Listed as a Ship's Carpenter in 1880 Census. Dies 21Jul1883 and buried at Riverside Cemetery, Cleveland in a plot owned by his wife, Margaret.
Charles Wesley Kaighin Jr. b. 1863 Brooklyn NY. Married Anna Waddell of Ashtabula, Ohio. Published several songs and books. Was an accomplished blacksmith. Walked several miles a day.
George Cletus Kaighin. b. 4Apr1904. Married Martha Gertrude Sheid of Sandusky, Ohio 10Feb1939 and died 3 months later on 16May1939. Death Certificate lists "Cerebral Accident", but my grandmother says that he had an allergic reaction to medications administered for a bleeding ulcer. She believes the hospital covered up negligence. He was an industrial artist and is noted for his work on a mural at the Citadel. One Child.
Daniel George Kaighin. b. 5Nov1939. Married Dorothy Mae Mueller of Cleveland, Ohio. had 5 Children.
Gregory Daniel Kaighin. (Me) b. 1970.
