Dear Miss Coakley:

Being an American Anglophile does not necessarily mean that lots of Americans are left out of speaking English. The English language is similar to American society; composed of Greeks, Latins, French, Norse, Germans, and even Sanskrit speaking individuals.

I remember the scads of American words being accepted for inclusion in the Oxford Dictionary after the end of the Second World War. The Addenda and Corrigenda of my 1933 copy with revised addenda through 1955, is laced with Americanisms and I think it's okay.
