My Cregeen ancestors were in Malew and Abory (kirk Rushen) in 1635 and possibly earlier. I have a copy of the will of "Richard Credeene" of Malew (1687). Before that, the surname was De Breden according to a cousin who still lives in IOM.
My cousin says: It is probable that the De Bredens were Anglo-Normans who arrived in the Isle of Man during the period of Anglo-Irish conflict, when the Norse in the island were allies of the Normans.
