We now know there is no proven link between your husband and the Robert Corlett chr. In Andreas
I would prefer to leave you in Lois Ralphs capable hands regarding North American research.
She is right in what she says about the Southwards and I would follow her suggestions.
However there are some additional clues for you both to pursue.
Of the many Roberts on our manx Corlett files he is the only one to fit the time frame.
His father was a fisherman, Castletown was a principle fishing base and there is a gap between birth and christening.
Robert was not found on the I.O.M. after the 1851 census.
This Robert was a Blacksmith so also find out what he did after arrival in the USA.
The 22 year old John Corlett could have been one of many so ditto for him
Regarding Thomas Cain aged 28 in 1855? Not my remit.
Peter.
