Re: James Radcliffe marriage

Hi Sue

I have been trying to help David F understand why Parker for a few years now.

The hand written copy of the ships arrival in Sydney 23/3/1854 shows Jas Radcliffe as crew - able seaman.

There is no passenger Parker shown, however in three newspapers Messrs Parker and others are shown as passengers.

Just recently I found that add looking for Joseph Parker by his brother Henry.

James Radcliffe took the name Parker.

According to the transcribed will of Lace Radciffe , although he left money to James in Australia , James did not claim the inheritance. We believe that the Crescent City came to Sydney via New York - which was unusual , and as 3 of James' brothers we in the USA , if he was to jump ship, why did he not jump ship in N.Y.

When my wife's grt grt grandparents John & Mary Campbell arrived in Sydney 13/3/1841 on the "Berkshire" , they came with daughter Janet , 4 years, and Mary's sisters Anne & Jane Dow. Anne married James Anderson in April 1842 and Jane married James Patterson in February 1842.

Anderson's name was Mullens and Paterson was Petrie. They were crew on the " Berkshire" and had jumped ship - after onboard romance. Later the Patersons change their name back to Petrie , but the others stayed Anderson.

So for David F , too many unanswered questions

Cheers
David D
