Hi Gary , I think that Sue and Lionel are really on the track , the ship "Siberian" took kids from the Douglas Industrial Home to Canada in 1885, 1887, 1888, 1889, 1890 and 1895. The list I have shows Alfred Crellin aged 10 going on the Siberian in 1895 , but not all kids have which ship they sailed on. William Clucas aged 18 ??? sailed in 1895.
I have read that the kids went to Scotland to meet up with Quarrier emigrants. You will like the next statement from my list and information :
The Home ( D.I.H.) did not have a Distributing Centre in Canada, so utilized the services of Quarrier to send children to Fairknowe in Brockville , Ontario until 1897 when Quarrier stopped emigration of children to Canada because he opposed new restrictions. The Home utilized the services of Barnardo, Wallace and Bilbrough until after Quarriers death in 1903 , when they again used their facilities
But what of James Clucas and Jane McCord ????
Cheers
David
