Hi Gary,
You didn't say why you thought he came from the IoM, or give details of those records. What do census records have as his place of birth? Death? M.I.? Passenger arrival record?
Lionel has given the record of his U.S. WW 11 draft registration card with his birth date given as Dec. 25, 1888, in Douglas, Isle of Man.
However the reason I asked you for your sources was because I couldn't find him on Brian Lawson's births index which was taken from the actual birth registrations (not the index). See "Births Database" at lawsonsiom.freevar.com/
which includes the ones missing from www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/LawsonBMD/Main_Site_index.html
I cannot find any William Clucas births on 25 December, nor any Clucas births with mother "McCord". The closest entry to the details Lionel gave is CLUCAS, Male, born 25 May 1888 Douglas, Page 704. Father CLUCAS, John James, Mother CAIN, Sarah Ann.
Of course Brian might have missed an entry, so you could still ask the Registry, but I would also check all those other sources to see how consistent the information was, and whether he ever gave other places of birth.
If you post the year he arrived in the U.S. I can check other IoM and UK censuses.
Sue
