Re: William Seymour Clucas
In Response To: William Seymour Clucas ()

Thanks to all for everything so far. Honestly, I should have been more specific in my original post as I was in my second. I'm simply looking for information that someone may hold on a scrap or whatever in their research files. Like my tree I have lots of Clucases, Far(a)ghers, Mylchreests, etc, etc, etc, etc in my files - and there are a ton of etcs in my files - who are not, as yet, in my tree. I have gathered and kept most everyone I've looked at in case I ever develop a relation or can provide someone assistance with what I've found. Likewise there are many, many of Clucas ancestry worldwide in my tree.

First of all the Lawson files are not the absolute for any data as far as I've ever found researching my family. Very little of my family is included in the Lawson data. That includes marriages, deaths, whatever. Clucases and many, many of my other ancestors as well. More wills naming my family members are in the Lawson files than anything else pertaining to my family. And those same, and more, wills have long before been available through other resources such as Frances' data. I have personally visited, photographed and recorded more of my ancestors' graves at Old Saint Runius in Marown alone than are listed in the Lawson files relating to my ancestors.

Secondly, Lionel hit the nail on the head with his comment about the draft (conscription) card. The hard copy of the original shows William's declared place of BIRTH AS DOUGLAS, IOM. I'm confident when William registered for the US draft he was required to be as specific as I was when I did two decades later. Like so many Manx William's P.O.B. erroneously shows as "England" in his original U.S. Census data. Those of you who've searched US and Canadian census and immigration records are probably well aware England was often erroneously entered by bureaucrats in place of I.O.M.

A little about myself and my data. I was once active on this board but it's been several years. I've validated my family back to Gilbert Clucas born Corvalley, Marown abt. 1620 (and there are many Corvalley's on Mannin). I'm a participant in the Manx Y-DNA study and my test validates my paternal heritage is definitely traceable to the Norse settlers. My family includes the likes of the Clucases of Mary Voar as well as the Fargher's of Shen Valley, Malew.

And as far as David's in-law Willie from Malew - there aren't many Clucases on the south end of the island who aren't proudly related.

I took a flyer looking for William after I found a photo of a matchbook cover for his barber shop. He was listed as a barber on his draft card and in census records. The matchbook, draft card, census records and other data indicate he lived out his life in Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA.

As much as I appreciate the input I guess, from what I've seen here, I should have listed everything I looked at for William S. in my original post. I apologize for not being more specific with my original request. I regret that my request has caused so much debate.
