Lib Plit - full name Libri Placitorum (books of common pleas) will have an entry for each case brought before the court - if heard and Nigel is I think implying that any such case would probably have been aborted by consent of parties, the verdict would be in Lib Canc tho if the case was dismissed then this would be recorded in Lib Plit (or at least in the few I've looked up)- there is an listing of the cases in Lib Plit on one of the microfilms - not indexed but in date order - however I would have expected to see an agreement recorded within the deeds between the various parties if a law case was brought. There is a handlist of important cases in Chancery Court (ie Lib Scacc) in Quayle's precedents MM509C upto 1720 + then a continuation 1720-1785 in MM508C (both from Bridge house papers - they may be on microfilm as well)
I wonder did they settle things in the old fashioned way??? Had a very quick look at Lib Plit today and almost the first thing I saw was 1763 ??? Banks presented Steven Kewley for Bloodswipe on Danl Kewley and had to pay 12d.
Think I can see why if Steven had been paying his mother 10 s per year to buy a parcel of land which it seems possible that Daniel has now claimed as part of the 'estate' [tho not proven yet] .
I now have a copy of the mortgage between Dan Kewley and wife Mary Quine and Wm Caine dated 1786 [3 years after Danl snr died and 2 years after Stephen's death].
The records appear to show a Deed of Settlement dated 28 June 1800 I think involving Dan Kewley and son John.
There is so much info in the Lib Plit I need a complete month 24/7 to try to digest !!
Just update in case you have any more comments.
