The question as to the parish of residence is usually followed by a statement 'by banns' or 'by licence' and if the marriage was by banns and one party was resident in another parish, a certificate would be required confirming that the banns had been read in the other (usually the groom's) parish church..
A very few records of the reading of the banns have survivedf (Frances??) but I haven't seen a banns certificate. Many couples distained the marriage by banns and paid for a license, which was apparently a status symbol. I guess I am talking about the period 1757 to 1800.
