There were two unrelated CHRISTIAN families in Andreas who used Richard as a forename during the 1700s.
Firstly there was Richard son of Daniel Christian (d.1732, will) and Margaret SANSBURY (d.1723, will) who married 1. Isobel CASHIN in 1728, and 2. Alice TEAR in 1734.
This Richard d.28 Feb.1740/41 [will A 90]. His children were Thomas & Isabel (no Richard), and it was interesting that should they die he left his crofts near the Curragh to John SAYLE who was the (illegitimate) son of his sister Margaret (who married James DOWAN 1726). John bapt 1719 was the son of Thomas Sayle d.1723 who also named his son John in his will.
Richard's son Thomas was bapt 14 Oct.1733. When I looked at this family very many years ago I found some refs to either Richard or son Thomas being well-known as a builder who was responsible for some famous building - sorry, forgotten the details! I didn't research this family once I was certain that they were not related to my ones.
The second Richard Christian had the 1724 will [Arch 67]. He was bur.27 Sept 1723, and had married Margaret HOWLAND of Bride bur.10 Feb.1719/20 [will]. These are my ones who I have written about before.
His grandson Richard didn’t end up in the USA.
Richard & Margaret's children were son John (weaver), daurs Bahy, & Mally (Mary) who married James CHRISTIAN of Jurby. Just to confuse things further this James was the brother of the first Richard Christian (above). So I suppose that was an in-law connection, if not a blood relative. James d.8 March 1729 and in his will he mentioned his sister Margaret Dowan and her son John Sayle, brother Richard Christian & father Daniel Christian. His wife Mally predeceased him [1726] and as well as her husband James she mentioned her sister Bahee, her brother John, and her brother’s wife Averick CRAIN.
Richard’s only living son John Christian (d.1771 Will) & Averick CRAIN (d.1774 Will & Deed) marry’d 12 Feb 1722/23.
John & Averick’s living children were Jony daughter of Jon Christian bapt 8 Nov.1724, marr. William CLEATER 1754, d.1762?
Richd son of John Christian bapt 26 Sept 1726, marr.Ellinor TEARE 1761 with consent of parents. He d.1803 [will]; she d.1802 [will].
William son of John Christian (BallaCoary) bap 11 May 1730, died 24 Sept.1773 [decree included “their uncles by the father's side namely Richard Christian, Philip Tear, & Wm Cleater sworn supervisors.."].
Christian Daur of Jon (Balla-coary) bapt 28 Jan.1732/33, marr.Philip TEARE 1754 (Bignal).
I don’t recall looking at the 1742-2 Bride will for a Richard Christian [A 92].
The 1794 Rushen Epis decree would be for Richard Christian whose widow was on the “list of the unfortunate widows of Kirk Christ. Rushen, whose husbands perished at the herring fishery beyond the Calf of Mann on the 12th of August, 1793”.
“Richard Christian, a widow with three small children.” (John, Richard, Ann)
