Why Franklin put EDISTO as his place of birth was because the PATRICK CAIN, lived and surveyed lands in ORANGBURGH,holdings WERE GREAT. NATHANIEL WALKER HAD GREAT HOLDINGS who married ALICE CAIN OFF THE ISLE, IN THAT AREA.

The earliest record of PATRICK SR, coming into America is in AUGUSTA CO. VA, on MARCH 11, 1747 when Thomas LEWIS surveyed a plat of 200 acres of land for him ( page 27, surveyor's notebook) On Decmeber 11, 1749 he received a land grant for 200 acres on Cedar Creek on Hunter's Spring Draft( LAND ENTRY BOOK NO 1, AUGUSTA COUNTY, ON MARCH 30 1750, HE HAD ANOTHER SURVEY made by THOMAN LEWIS for 220 arces in Auguata Co.

ORANGBURGH is bounded by the SALKAHATCHEE AND EDISTO RIVERS and PATRICK did surveys, really, he surveyed about all of that area.

He became an OFFICER IN 1775, joined under CAPTAIN ANDREW CUMMINGS COMPANY OF VOLUNTEER MILITIA on the OCTOBER 9, 1775, HIS NAME APPEARS ON THE ORGINAL PETITION TO THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS, APPOINTED FIRST LIEUTENANT, HE WAS UNDER THE FIELD OFFICERS OF THE COLLETON COUNTY REGIMENT OF FOOTE (2).

I do know I have been to the graves of ALICE CAIN OFF THE ISLE AND SLAUGHTERFIELD WHERE PATRICK IS BURIED UNDER A TREE, AND PATRICK SR, IS BURIED IN BARNWELL. PATRICK SR. was in the will of a relative in 1779 ,WINTON COUNTY, BARNWELL DISTRICT, PATRICK JR. had been killed some 20 years earlier by the Tories. PATRICK SR, died in Barnwell County, and buried there.

I can assure you that the putting EDISTO which is actually a part of ORANBURG and ST, MATTHEWS is 10 minute away, was because he surveyed there.
