My ancestor’s services in assisting in the establishment of American Independence during the War of the
Revolution were as follows :
Patrick Cain (no 4) and John Cain (no 3) were
enrolled as members of the
“ Edisto and Saltcatcher “ Co. in
Revolution.
Patrick Cain, Sr. was a member of
The Legislature in 1777 – from
Orangeburg Co. S. C.
Patrick Cain, Jr. was killed in
a skirmish with British &
Tories at “ The Old Slaughter Field ”
( Two miles from present town of
Blackville S. C. ) Tradition is that
he was buried by the women and
Children, all the men having
gone in pursuit of the enemy
The D. A. R. Chapter of Blackville
plan to erect a marker at
“ The Old Slaughter Field “ and
at Patrick Cain’s grave.
