Good Morning friends and non friends,
Every now and again I put my fingers to the laptop keypad and tap away at researching my Cains again.
I am still searching for John Henry Cain (birth in Union Mills) and his father Robert.
I've been putting my eyes over the wedding cert of John Henry to Edith Cowell/Cowle and I keep seeing Father Robert: deceased: a carter and I wonder...Could it be this way:
If his father was dead in 1917, could the guy Robert be his son (my grandfather, who was Robert Henry Cain, born 1894)? On my grandfathers army papers it states he was a carter, so two things come to my mind: did my grandfather Robert Henry take over from my GG Grandfather Robert Cain? As his age would have been 23 in 1917, but i'm sure my grandfather RH was in army by then. It seems strange to me that R Cain was said to be a carter and RH was also carter as it is said so on the army papers. What did carters do them days? Carry coal etc...
