The last will and testament of William Quayle formerly of Blockeiry in
the parish of Lezayre who from due consideration of the uncertainty of
the transitory life do make my last will and testament in manner
following:
I leave and bequeath to my brother Thomas Quayle the one half of the
rents or issues and profits of my estate of Blockeiry situated in the
parish of Lezayre for the time or term of his natural life as legacy and
after my decease to come to my heir at law -
I leave and bequeath to my two sisters Mary Joughin alias Quayle and
Catherine Cowley alias Quayle the rents or issues and profit of a certain
meadow called and known by the name of Lhieny-beg-estring situate in
the parish of Lezayre share and share alike during their natural life time
and after my and their decease I hereby declare and leave and bequeath
to the said Mary Joughin's two daughters Jane Kneen and Marget Joughin
their heirs or assigns the one half of the aforesaid meadow share and
share alike as legacy and also leave and bequeath unto Anne Cowley her
heirs or assigns daughter of the said Catherine Cowley the other half of
the aforesaid meadow as legacy -
I leave and bequeath to my niece Elizabeth Cowley a note which I hold
from the trustees of Sulby Wesleyan Chapel for the sum of thirty pounds
with the interest due thereon as legacy.
I leave and bequeath to my niece Catherine Cowley my notes from
Charles Cain for the sum of ten pounds and the interest due thereon and
from Nicholas Killip for the sum of four pounds and the interest due
thereon as legacy.
I leave and bequeath to my two nieces Marget and Eliza Cowley the
amount of a certain bond or security for the sum of fifty three pounds
passed to me by Thomas Cowley charging and effecting certain premises
situated in the parish of Lezayre called "Recewers Close" reserving
however the interest arising out of the said amount to or for the use of
my sister Catherine Cowley during her natural life time and after the
deceased to be passed by my aforesaid nieces share and share alike as
legacy.
I leave and bequeath to my nephew William Cowley my note from my
brother John Quayle for the sum of five pounds with the interest due
thereon as legacy.
I leave and bequeath to my brother John Quayle the sum of five shillings
as legacy.
Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my brother in law Thomas
Cowley whole and sole executor of all the rest of my goods, bonds, notes,
cash, credits and effects moveable and immoveable what soever. In
testimony whereof I here unto subscribed my name this the 29th day of

At a Chapter Court held at Ramsey on the 8th day of May 1868 Robert
Cowley and Thomas Caley the subsribing witnesses to the foregoing
paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of William
Quayle deceased having made oath upon the Holy Evangelists that said
William Quayle the testator when of sound and disposing mind memory
and understanding duly signed and executed the same as and for his last
will and testament in their presence. Thomas Cowley the executor
therein named is therefore sworn well and truly to fulfil and execute the
same and to administer all and singular the personal estate and effects
of the said deceased according to law by paying the just debts and
funeral expenses of the deceased and the legacies contained in his will
so far forth as the said estate and effects will thereto extend and the
law bind him and to return into the Archdeacon's Registry a full true and
perfect inventory of all and singular the said estate and effects with an
accurate account of his administration thereof when thereunto lawfully
required and to these ends he hath given pledges John Cleator of
Ballakirkey and Thomas William Cowell of Ballakibbergh usual bond in
the presence of the court. Probatum est Tho Callow
Know all men by these presents that we John Hinds and Elizabeth Hinds
alias Cowley do hereby acknowledge that we have received from Thomas
Cowley executor of the will of William Quayle late of Blockeary in the
parish of Lezayre the full sum of thirty pounds sterling being in full
discharge of a legacy left and bequeathed to the said Elizabeth now wife
of John Hinds by the said William Quayle her uncle, the said will bearing
date the 29th day of March 1861 - And the said John Hinds and Elizabeth
Hinds do acquit release and discharge the said Thomas Cowley his
executors administrators and assigns from all further claim or demands
under the said will and they do desire and direct that the said will so far
as the said legacy is concerned be and stand cancelled in the
Archdeacons Registry this the 14th day of August 1869.
