Re: Ashe Family
In Response To: Re: Ashe Family ()

I thought you might be interested in some information I've found about Sarah Maria Hatton.

I found a transcription of her baptismal registry on the Lancaster OPC:

Baptism: 2 Jun 1830 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Sarah Maria Hatton - [Child] of George Hatton & Mary
Abode: Fleet St
Occupation: Attorney
Baptised by: J. Robinson Asst. Curate
Register: Baptisms 1830 - 1831, Page 20, Entry 158
Source: LDS Film 93878

This information is confirmed and expanded by Sarah Maria's death registry, which I found just yesterday on ScotlandsPeople. She died in Minnigaff, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland:

Sarah Maria Ashe
Married to James Wilton Ashe, Mining Engineer

August 23, 1874
at Rosebank Villa in Minnigaff

Age: 45 years

Father: George Hatton, Queen's Counsel, deceased
Mother: Mary Hatton, M.S. (maiden surname?) Wild, deceased

Cause of death: ovarian tumour

I have no birth or death dates for George and Mary Hatton, and have not been able to find a George Hatton, attorney, in the census as yet.

I poked around in familysearch a bit and found a marriage between a George Hatton and a Mary Nicholson, widow, at St. Anne's in Liverpool on 21 Nov 1826. I also found a marriage between a Mary Wild and a Samuel Nicholson in Derbyshire on 2 Jan 1821. So it may be that Mary Wild married Samuel Nicholson in 1821, was widowed, and then married George Hatton in 1826 ... and that they are our George and Mary Hatton, but it's all pretty speculative at this point. I'll keep digging. :-)
