Your post reminded me of something. A few months ago I saw a post on a genealogy.com message board about James Wilton Ashe. It mentioned Ellen and their children, and said that he had been "a minister of the English Church." I wonder if after the failure of his business venture he started thinking about a career change.

The post also mentioned that he had a brother named John Ashe, no further details.

I e-mailed the poster who judging by her last name was a descendant of Ellen Ethel Ashe and her husband David Gregg Murray, but the post was more than 10 years old and my e-mail bounced back.

Another puzzle to unravel!
