Ray, did you or anyone else look at the Andreas parish register copy on film for the bapt of James on 19th March 1843, mother Anne Cowley, no father given? It might have a clue to his mother, not shown in the IGI.

Secondly, was it only his death cert that gave his father as being Robert Bruce, or was the same information given on both his marriage certs as well?
Could you tell me exactly what they have as father's name and occupation?
