Re: Caroline Jane Lucy Christian

Sue,
Re your question: Firstly, what does "among others" refer to? In the first part of the will she bequeaths to Caroline Jane Lucy Christian all of her estate and effects both real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever for her lifetime excepting my two houses on Albert Street Ramsey, those she can absolutely do as she like with...afterwards they are to go to my cousin John L. M. Christian or his heirs. "After the death of Caroline Jane Lucy Christian my estate and effects both real and personal I leave to John Longford Mellor Christian my cousin or his heirs if John is dead by then. If Caroline J. L. Christian marries a member of the Roman Catholic Church she Caroline J. L. Christian forfiets all I leave her of my real estate and personal and it passes to my cousin John L. M. Christian or his heirs. I wish Caroline Christian to give to John Christian and his wife Faith any old bit of family furniture or picture or bit of old china they may wish to have. Also in memory of me I wish John to have my large gold brooch and one of my gold chains and a gold ring. And each of John's children five pounds in memory of me. I appoint Caroline Jane Lucy Christian sole executrix of this my will."(May 15, 1919) This is a xerox-type office copy of the will from Kneale & Co.

There is also a typewritten copy of the Petition of Caroline Jane Lucy Christian of Washington Mount Ballure Road in the Town of Ramsey Spinster that quotes from the will of Jane Sayle Christian Crellin, that says that Jane Sayle Christian Crellin died on the 17 June 1927 and on 2 July 1927 Probate of the said last will and Testament was granted to Your Petitioner the sole Executrix therein named. Then, type written, with some dates and names handwritten, it states that John Longford Mellor Christian die 22 May 1918, and names his issue - John Longford Lee Crellin Christian of 7113 Clark Avenue Cleveland Ohio USA who is the eldes son and heir-at-law of the said John Longford Mellor Christian. Then it names the other sons: Howard Mellor Christian, who died without issue, Caroline Florence Faith Christian who predeceased LJM Christian without issue, Ramsey Beresford Christian, Cleveland, and Mona Folk (aka Julia Mona Christian Folk), Cleveland, and Percy (aka Percival Hope) Christian - dead and leaving one child (Howard Eugene) who is a minor. It then names specific property.

There is a letter from Edward Corteen, dated 10 June 1944 to John Longford Lee Crellin Christian that advises JLLC Christian of "your cousin Caroline's passing"- visiting her in the hospital when she underwent an operation on 26 April in the Ramsey Cottage Hospital, and passed on the following Wednesday at about noon. She was buried 28 April in the old family graves. Edward Corteen says that he was the only relative present. He says that his grandmother was "Miss Christian of Baldronna Maughold, and her father was a first cousin to Capt. John Christian of The Flatt." He says that Caroline had appointed him executor of her will. He talks about the various furniture and household goods, and the Cooil Roi and The Nook properties, Washington Mount, as to how JLLC Christian would want to handle them, and that one of Caroline's trustees of her will was serving in the army and the other was a clerk in the office of Kneale & Co. He then goes on to tell about himself: banker & chief accountant at the Isle of Man Bank Ltd, Douglas.
