Hi Donna,

The Robert Boyd b.1854 in the USA 1900 census had a brother living with him who was born in California in 1866. So the family wouldn't have been in the IoM 1881 census unless they had returned home. I checked the two Roberts of that age (from IGI bapts) and found them in either the IOM or England (the Ramsey one) in all censuses I looked at.

There must be a record of Robert with his parents in USA censuses - perhaps someone who has the world version of Ancestry would have a look for them.
