John Taggart, 1778-1836

Locally born. Mainly known for his many heavily built warehouses. First starts to advertise services as an architect in 1809; did some early work at Ballafletcher. Designed the National School, first building completed in the then new Athol Street Douglas, 1810. In 1818 designed the Thomas Street Wesleyan Methodist Chapel (later to become Victoria street)

Designed the only Bishop Ward church not designed by John Welch - Kirk Lonan 1834
