The former church was re-erected in 1773, on the site of a much older one. Bishop Mark held a synod in an older church at this place, on the 10th March 1291.
Near Oakhill is a new school-house, used as a chapel-of-ease to the parish of Braddan.
Also the one situated at Tromode, in the same parish.
An Act of Tynwald was passed on the 19th April 1742, to enable the Lord Bishop to exchange the glebe lands, vicarage-house, and gardens, for land belonging to Captain Edward Fletcher, called " Croit-y-killip," and to build a new vicarage-house, etc., thereon. Bishop Wilson contributed £15 towards the building.-See Mill's Statutes, pp. 269-273.
In February 1847, it was provided before the appointment of Mr. Drury, that any future appointment to the vicarage of Braddan, to be subject to such measures as may be hereafter enacted for dividing the parish, and erecting the town of Douglas into a separate parish.
In 1848 four acres of the estate of Ballafetcher were purchased for £400, to be used as an additional burial-ground for the parish.
The new parish church, erected by public subscriptions, was consecrated by the Bishop of Lichfield on the 31st August 1876.

I In St. Matthew's Chapel, Douglas, the following Memorial was erected in 1785 :-
Sacred to the Memory of The Rev. PHILIP MOORE, Rector of Kirk Bride, and officiating Minister of the Chapel of Douglas. His education was completed under the auspices of good Bishop Wilson; and he made a grateful return for this singular advantage, by contributing to the virtuous Instruction of Youth ; being above 40 years Maste'r of Douglas School.
He was likewise principally concerned in revising the memorable Translation of the Sacred Scriptures into the Manx Language ; for which, by his learning, he was eminently qualified.
He was born in Douglas, September 5, 1705, and died there, January 22, 1783. This Monument was erected as a Testimony of friendly esteem, at the expense of the Rev. Thos. Wilson D.D., son of the Bishop, Prebendary of Westminster, and Rector of St. Stephen's, Wallbrook.
This chapel, dedicated to St. George, was consecrated in 1780.
Patron, the vicar.
The register commences in 1781.
This chapel was commenced building in 1761, and finished in 1780.
Sir George Moore endowed St. George's with £20 Manx per annum, secured upon Ballabrooie, near Douglas. The remainder of the chaplain's income is derived from pew rents. There is neither house nor glebe.

ADMIRALTY, April 5, 1835. MY DEAR Bishop-I hope now very soon to be able to send your Floating Chapel round to Douglas. She is reported as nearly fit, and will be sent by a steamer who will bring away also her rigging, etc., which will not be required in her new office. It is distinctly to be understood that she is lent by the Admiralty as a Floating Chapel for the exclusive use of the Established Church. To be under the exclusive control of the bishop or superintending minister of the place. To be kept in repair, painted, etc., at the cost of the island (at least without cost to the Admiralty) ; and to be liable to be resumed by the Admiralty whenever the king's service may require. Trusting that she may be of use, and with much pleasure at having been able to meet your wishes, I remain, my dear bishop, your most affect., DE GREY.
The Lord Bishop of Sodor and Man.

This chapel, dedicated to St. Thomas, was consecrated in 1872.
Patron, the vicar.
The architect was Ewan Christian, Esq., of London.
In the tower is a peal of eight bells, the only peal in the island, the gift of the Rev. J. Catley, a former curate of St. Thomas'. The structure is early English, and was completed (with the exception of the spire) in the year 1849. Dr. Carpenter of St. Barnabas, Douglas, was chiefly instrumental in its erection, and raised subscriptions, and obtained donations and grants from the " Woods and Forests," and " the Incorporated Society for the Building of Churches." In 1872, under an Order in Council, it had a parochial district assigned to it.
Baptismal register commences 1850. Marriage register 1855. A parsonage-house; no endowment.
