The parish is said to derive its name from St. Conanus, who was Bishop of Man A.D. 600, and formerly called Kirk Conchan.
An Act of Tynwald was promulgated on the 20th September 1830 for providing a new parish church at Conchan on part of the glebe field, near to the churchyard, and to take down the old church, being in a dilapidated condition.-Geneste's Statutes, pp. 65-69.
An Act of Tynwald was also promulgated on the 21st March 1839, for building a new vicarage-house and offices on the vicar's glebe. In 1854 about half-an-acre of land was purchased from John Stanway Jackson for £170 :16s., ad-joining the present churchyard, as an additional burial-ground for the parish. The vicar and wardens may dispose of one-third part of such land for graves.
