Purchased by Douglas Water Works Co (later aquired by Douglas Corporation) to allow it to obtain the water rights to extract water from the Groudle River to supply Douglas - Mates guide of 1902 has "The old water mill on the little flat near the harbour was a gem of the picturesque, now modernized into the engine works of a reserve reservoir". An old wheel, possibly from this mill or from Wellington Mill, was used as a picturesque item futher up the glen near the entrance from the MER halt and hotel.

dated 14 Apr 1866;Samuel Shalcross Callow(Howstrake) + wife Elizabeth Hannah sell for £650 to the Douglas Water Works Company the Groudle Mill with the dam, race and weir + machinery and rights to Water and other rights to stream and lands in Onchan parish; notes that lands at present under lease to John Oates with 13 yrs remaining; also company to have right to lay pipes to/from a holding tank as shown on annexed plan
Some 15 years later the water company mananaged to acquire Bowring Mill near the head of the stream which fed Groudle Mill
