CRESCENT ACADEMY, NEAR DOUGLAS, ISLE OF MAN

MR. STEELE

BEGS most respectfully to announce, that as he is at present enlarging his Premises, by the erection of a very large and commodious SCHOOL ROOM, he will, in consequence, be enabled to aceummodate a few additional YOUNG GENTLEMEN as BOARDERS’ after the Midsummer Vacation. Parents and Guardians who may he disposed to place Young Gentlemen under Mr. STEELE’S care, may he assured that every attention will he paid to them, both with regard to their comfort, and to their religious, moral, and intellectual culture.

The Isle of Man is faimed for the healthiness of its climate, and Douglas is well known as an excellent watering place. Mr, STEELE’s house being situated on the Bay, the Boys have it thus in their power to enjoy the benefits of Sea Bathing, with the greatest possible convenience. References of the highest respectability can be given.

The Branches of Education taught by Mr. STEELE nod his Assistants, are Latin, Greek, French, and English, on the intellectual plan adopted by Mr. Woon of Edinburgh,—Elements of Composition, t-Iistnry, Geography, with the Use of the Globes, Astronomy, Arithmetic, including Mental Calculation, Mathematics, Theoretical nod Practical, Algebra, Elementary Science, Religious Instruction, Lessons on Objects, Writing, and Bookkeeping.

TERMS:

For Day Pupils, Two Guineas per quarter; for Boarders under eight years of age, twenty-five Guineas per annum; for those between eight and fourteen years, thirty Guineas; and for those ahove fourteen years, thirty-five Guineas. These Terms include Board and all the Branches of Education enumerated above. When Parents wish that their Boys should have the advantage of a French Master, there is an additional charge of One Gainea per quarter. Drawing and Dancing are also taught by Masters. The charge for Drawing is one Guinea per quarter, and for Dancing 11s 6d. Washing 10s. per quarter.
The Midsummer Vacation continues Six Weeks, from the end of June to the middle of August. The quarter days are 3rd, November, 22nd January, 12th April,and the 28th June,—the first quarter commencing on the 18th August.
A quarter’s Notice is requested before the removal of a Pupil.

FORTY GUINEAS include the Charge for Board and Washing, with Instruction in English, Greek, and Latin; Antiquities, Mythology, History, Chronology, and Geography, with the Use of the Globes; Writing and Book.keepiflg; the various Branches of Pure and Practical Methematics, Natural Ppilosophy, Chemistry, &c. for Stationary, the use of School-books, of Chemical, Mathematical, Astronomical, and other Philosophical Apparatus; also, a Seat in either the English or Scotch Church.

For Pupils above fifteen years, FIFTY GUINEAS.

For Pupils learning French, Drawing, or any Branch not mentioned above, an additional charge is made.

Religious Instruction regularly given in School, by Clergymen of the Church of England.

A Quarter to be paid for in advance. A Quarter’s notice is required before the removal of a Pupil. Each Gentleman must be provided with six Towels, a Silver Fork, a Dessert and a Tea Spoon, which will be returned on his leaving School.
