[This guide went through at least six editions being first published 1899 (the 6th in 1905), the text here is from the 3rd edition - the editions were approximately at two year intervals - some text was updated and the adverts changed. The format was generally two column letterpress text on left hand page flowing around a centre photograph - a larger full page photograph on the opposite page - the photographs were not always illustrative of the surrounding text, some liberty has been taken here as the page format has not been followed, to move the photographs to be nearer the relevant text]
