As an important scientific excursion to the Isle of Man, lasting over several days, has been arranged in connection with the Liverpool meeting of the British Association, it has been thought appropriate to give as an Appendix to this Handbook a short account of the Island in its scientific aspects. Mr. P. M. C. Kermode has contributed an Introduction dealing with the Physical Features, the History and the Antiquities; Mr. G. W. Lamplugh, of H.M. Geological Survey, has drawn up for us a preliminary sketch of his forthcoming memoir; and I have compiled a brief account of the Natural History, chiefly derived from the work that has been done in and around the Island by the Liverpool naturalists.
