Your suggestion is that some (?all) of the early manx surnames are actually derived from the quarterland farm name which in turn was topographic - thus the early rolls were an early example of the manx propensity to call people by their quarterland farm name using 'mac' in senses of 'belongs to' rather than 'son of' ?
