John Garrett’s parents are John Garrett and Anne Radcliffe, and this can be seen on the IGI as extracted (printout call no. 6909372) with a christening date of 16.12.1787.
There are other records for a John Garrett born 1799 but this is a submitted record and not extracted. Even though I can find this John Garrett with a spouse called Jane Quayle, again they were only submitted entries and not taken from Parish Records.
The marriages I found on the IGI for a John Garrett/Jane Quayle were again submitted entries and not extracted.
My theory is that as I could not find an extracted parish record for the marriage, I had to look for maybe deaths, and in the monumental inscriptions of Kirk Michael Old and New Yards, Row G, No. 3, I found John Garrett who died 1851 in his 58th year, making his birth around 1783, and in the grave next door, no. 4, his wife Jane Garrett alias Quayle who died 1842 aged 62 years, so I think that now I’ve found their births and deaths.
In 1851 there is a John Garrett, a widower, aged 66 and a mason (therefore born abt 1785) and listing his place born as Lezayre, so perhaps this could well be my man. A son John who is a shoemaker, unmarried, aged 31, born Kirk Michael, is living with his father.
Whilst looking at the 1851 census, I might add that there is another John Garrett who is unmarried aged 44 years born Kirk Michael, but no others, so I am drawing the conclusion that the widower John Garrett is my man (his wife Jane having died in 1843).
It is not uncommon for there to be one or two years variations in dates.
The reason I have Lezayre as John’s place of birth is because it was obviously stated as so by either himself or one of his family in 1851 as indicated on the 1851 census.
I feel I have followed as correct a line as I can in my research, but stand to be corrected if necessary by more experienced researchers.
Perhaps you could come up with how you have come across your facts.
