Between the three of us - Francis & Liz - we can't find anything to directly link Daniel (s/o Thomas & Rose) with the Lt Mylrea of the Harpooner. My working theory comes from "joining the dots" - names of children, broad patterns of behaviour etc. The age of 70 Francis comes from two sources: an online account of the wreck, and a letter from Commissary William Henry Drake to his wife during the Crimean War that gives Lt Mylrea's age as 56. I think we can only be confident that this fellow was of the older years ie. over 60, rather than believe that 70 was precise.

What do you suggest I do now? Your comments about well-to-do families buying commissions was very valuable Francis - I hadn't thought of that.

Liz, these children were probably born o/s. I can't find records either.
